Where Is Gozo?
Gozo is a Maltese island in the middle of the Mediterrean Sea.
It is 4 miles from the main island of Malta and 50 miles from Sicily.
How Big Is Gozo?
Gozo is 9 miles long and 4.5 miles wide covering an area of 26 square miles.
Gozo has a population of just over 39000 people and the locals refer to themselves as Gozitans.
It is surrounded by the Mediterranean sea and has largely rocky beaches with one main sandy beach.
Is Gozo A Separate Country?
Gozo is not a separate country, it is part of Malta. It is the second largest island in Malta.
The confusion often arises because the country of Malta is made up of a number of islands with the largest island also bearing the name Malta.
The smaller Maltese islands include Gozo and Comino.
Together these islands form the country known as Malta.
How To Get To Gozo.
Gozo does not have an international airport.
Most people travelling to Gozo will first fly in to Malta International Airport, Luqa which is based on the main island of Malta.
The airport is served by a range of carriers including Ryanair, Easyjet. AirMalta, AirCanada and Singapore Airlines.

The only way to get from Malta to Gozo is via one of two different ferries – known locally as the slow and fast ferry services.
From the airport you head to either to the slow ferry terminal in Cirkewwa or the fast ferry terminal at Valletta .
Slow Ferry.
The slow ferry is a car/passenger ferry connecting Cirkewwa, Malta to Mgarr Harbour, Gozo. .
To get to the slow ferry you can hire a car, take a bus (X1 route) or a taxi/Bolt/Uber/Ecabs from the airport to Cirkewwa.
The X1 bus costs 2 euros whilst a Bolt will be approximately 30 euros.
The journey is about an hour and a quarter by bus and 50 minutes by car.
The slow ferry from Cirkewwa to Mgarr Harbour, Gozo takes about 20 minutes and costs 4.65 euros.
The fast ferry service goes from the Grand Harbour, Valletta to Mgarr Harbour, Gozo and is passenger/bike only.
To get to the fast ferry terminal take a bus (X4 route) straight outside the airport to the main bus station in Valletta.
From here walk for about ten minutes or take a taxi to the Grand Harbour fast ferry terminal.
The bus costs 2 euros and takes about 35 minutes.
Alternatively take a taxi/Bolt/Uber/Ecabs directly from the airport to the fast ferry terminal in the Grand Harbour.
A Bolt will be about 15 euros and takes roughly 15 minutes.
The fast ferry from the Grand Harbour to Gozo takes 45 minutes and costs 7.5 euros.
